A Week to Regroup
As a CPA in tax, I’ve grown to loathe the term “spring break”. Over time that practice has become woven into the very fabric of our Nation’s freedom: life, liberty and the pursuit of a spring vacation. What a country! Even state legislators feel the need to take a break. If only we could break with them.
But the tax compliance work must be done on time, and we are just the people to do it. On the bright side, the beach is FAR less crowded during the third week of April. Just saying…
As mentioned, the legislators are out of the office this week. When they return, they’ll have six session days to finish up. We believe they will work fast, meaning they’ll allow two weeks to get those six days done. It is anticipated that they will dive deep into the budgets over the next week. Once budgets are done, it is anyone’s guess on how much gets done the following week.
With time of the essence, let’s recap the bills we would like to see passed this session:
- HB17 - Lamb (HB17-int.pdf) – Municipal audit thresholds. We think it is important to grant small municipalities some relief related to compliance/attest work.
- HB250 – Garrett (HB250-int.pdf) & SB79 – Roberts (SB79-int.pdf) – Provides for conformity with certain aspects of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
- HB545 – Crow (HB545-eng.pdf) & SB365 – Hovey (SB365-int.pdf) – Allows for rounding to the nearest nickel.
- SB221 – Orr (SB221-int.pdf) – Excludes credit card transaction fees from being subjected to sales and use tax calculations
The Watchlist has been purged of some bills we feel less likely to be advanced this session.
