Jim Martin is the founding member of Real World Seminars of GA, LLC, a company wholly dedicated to providing “real world” oriented accounting and auditing CPE for local practitioners primarily servicing or working for privately held organizations. Jim is a true “general practitioner” who, for 30 years, has specialized in income tax, accounting and auditing areas through his local firm Martin & Co., CPA, P.C. with offices in Sandy Springs, GA. Jim performs up to 70 full day continuing education presentations per year for CPAs and attorneys throughout the United States and Canada. To date, Jim has prepared and presented over 1600 full and half-day seminars on accounting, auditing and taxation topics and was named the winner of the 2014-2015 Outstanding Discussion Leader award from the State of Alabama to add to multiple other CPE awards he has received over the past 10 years. Jim also regularly consults with CPA firms throughout the United States on a variety of accounting, auditing and litigation support issues.

Karen joined the Culverhouse School of Accountancy faculty at the University of Alabama in August 2019 and teaches undergraduate and graduate level tax courses. Karen’s areas of specialization include state and local taxation and the taxation of individuals, corporations, and consolidated groups. Prior to joining the Culverhouse School of Accountancy faculty, Karen worked for an international public accounting firm for twenty-two years, serving as a tax partner based in the firm’s Birmingham office. During her career in public accounting, Karen served clients throughout the Southeast region and specialized in tax provision, consulting, and compliance services for the financial services industry.
Karen received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Alabama and a Master of Science in Accounting, with a tax concentration, from the University of Virginia.
Karen currently serves as a member of State Taxation and Legislation Committee for the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is a frequent speaker at continuing education events and seminars sponsored by the society, and she has published several articles on taxation topics for the society’s quarterly publication for its members. Karen also serves on the Undergraduate Council for the University of Alabama, and she is a member of the Capital Campaign Committee and the Board of Visitors for the Culverhouse College of Business.

Generation “THEM”: Managing a Multi-Generational Workforce
Generation "THEM" examines the "WHY" behind each American generation's common perspectives so that we can better understand one another and build more cohesive teams. This presentation gives attendees a solid understanding of generational norms and the importance of attracting and retaining top young talent to ensure sustainability while allowing them to laugh at how silly we are deep down. Objectives include:
· Attendees will be able to list the names and accepted age ranges of each generation currently in the American workplace. Attendees will be able to identify 3-5 commonly held beliefs within each generation.
· Attendees will be able to differentiate between commonly held traditionalist perspectives and that of incoming generations.
· Attendees will be able to articulate feedback for employees and co-workers of other generations that maximizes acceptance and change.
· Attendees will choose more effective mediums to communicate with co-workers in every generation to increase productivity.

Key Federal and Alabama Tax Developments for 2023
The session will provide an overview of the key US federal tax developments, related to both legislation and administrative guidance, during the first half of 2023. Additionally, the session will provide an overview of the key tax legislative developments from the 2023 regular session of the Alabama legislature. Areas of focus for individual, corporate, and partnership taxpayers will be addressed.
