Joel Hughes is a Business Development Consultant and Professional Trainer at Troy University within the Continuing Education and Outreach Division. With over two decades of experience in higher education administration, he specializes in leadership development, adult learner retention, and organizational management. Joel trains in areas such as communication, customer service, teambuilding, management, and is certified by The Myers Briggs Company to use their psychometric tools. He works with executives in associations, state agencies, and higher education to foster both personal and professional growth, while promoting his leadership motto: "Encourage, Engage, Inspire."
The most successful leaders learn skills in emotional intelligence. In this session, participants will develop an understanding of emotional intelligence and how it impacts leadership effectiveness, as well as increase self-awareness by identifying personal patterns to avoid emotionally charged situations. We also will address improving self-management by understanding responsive techniques for managing emotionally charged situations and boost social awareness by using techniques for recognizing emotional states in others.
