Bio
J. Michael Inzina is a May 1976 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Louisiana of Monroe. Mike passed the uniform CPA examination in Fort Worth, Texas, in November 1976. Since that time, he has spent over twenty-five years in public accounting in local and regional firms, as a staff auditor, senior, manager and partner. His practice experience includes small businesses, construction, cooperatives, utilities, financial institutions, not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities. Mike was awarded the Certificate of Educational Achievement (in governmental) by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1990, and the Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) designation by the Association of Government Accountants in 1996.
Nationally, Mike is a member of the AICPA Professional Ethics Executive Committee. He has also served as a member of the AICPA Auditing Standards Board (1997-2000), as subgroup chairman of the AICPA Governmental Technical Standards Subcommittee (1986-1991), and as a member of the AICPA Independence and Behavioral Standards Subcommittee (1991-1993). He has represented the AICPA and state societies before the Joint Regional Trial Board in numerous cases, and has been a contributor to AICPA Statement of Position 98-3 Audits of States, Local Governments, and Not-for-Profit Organizations Receiving Federal Awards, revisions to the AICPA Audit and Accounting Guide, Audits of State and Local Governmental Units, and the GASB Implementation Guide to Statement 34.
At the state level, Mike serves as a member and three-time Chairman of the Society of Louisiana CPAs' Ethics Committee, and is a former chapter president and director of the Society. He has also previously served as member and chairman of the Society's Governmental Practice Review Committee (1983-1990) and a number of other Society committees. He has been a member and former chairman of the Government Practice Review Committee, Governmental Positive Enforcement Program of the State Board of Certified Public Accountants of Louisiana.
As a discussion leader, Mike has been providing training to accountants and auditors for over fifteen years, serving the AICPA/PDI, Practitioners Publishing Company, GFOA, AGA, IIA, 38 state CPA societies, and many private firms and state audit groups. Mike has been recognized eleven times as Outstanding Instructor by the AICPA and state societies, including the 2002 Discussion Leader of the Year by the Society of Louisiana CPAs. He received a Special Recognition Award from the Board of Directors of the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants for outstanding achievement in the continuing education field, and the 2001 National Education and Training Award from the Association of Government Accountants.
