IRS and Treasury Letter Requesting Immediate Taxpayer Relief

UPDATE: Final versions of letters from both the Senate and the House are now available.

Monday, January 24, the Alabama Society of CPAs Board of Directors requested each member of Alabama’s Congressional delegation to support immediate relief for taxpayers and tax practitioners by reducing the need to contact the IRS. In a show of support, Representatives Sanchez and LaHood circulated a letter calling on the IRS and Treasury to consider solutions that will help filers bypass the backlog that is plaguing the IRS and make it easier to file timely returns. By end of day Monday, Representative Sewell shared correspondence indicating that she had signed on to the Sanchez letter. For questions, please contact Jeannine Birmingham, jbirmingham@alabama.CPA .
