ALDOR Final Assessment correspondence being issued to taxpayers
Issue: Clients have been receiving ALDOR final assessment letters for tax (and in some cases interest and penalties) because ALDOR has not cashed taxpayers checks timely. You may have contacted ALDOR on behalf of your client and receive the representative's acknowledgement that ALDOR is behind on cashing checks. In many cases, the payment of any tax liability, interest, and penalties were mailed within a day or two of the electronic filing of the returns. Clients in May and June were receiving these final assessment letters weeks after payments were mailed that remain uncashed.
The ASCPA has submitted this issue multiple times to ALDOR.
From ALDOR: Following notice to taxpayers, ALDOR has slowed the automatic billings including assessments.
Kathleen Abrams, kathleen.abram@revenue.alabama.gov, can help troubleshoot with specific issues if a CPA needs client assistance. Someone needing more immediate assistance can email Kathleen with the information below. ALDOR will attempt to quickly locate and process a check that may have been outstanding as we work the backlog.
