Editor’s Note:

The CPA profession continues to play a major role in helping individuals, businesses, and economies navigate the uncertainty of our broader environment. We rise to these challenges without fail as trusted advisers, helping clients and businesses grow and prosper.

As we strive to create more efficient and effective ways to support you as an AICPA member, the leadership of the AICPA Council governing body helps set the direction and pace.

Meeting this week in Atlanta, AICPA Council focused on the issues and opportunities driving the evolution of the profession — innovation and transformation, technology, politics and economics, regulation, human capital and skills, relationships, and business models. And with these factors transforming the work we do, we emphasized how imperative it is for us to implement checks and balances, adhering to our trusted professional role.

We also shared progress on efforts to liaise with regulators and legislators at state and federal levels; updated attendees on the tools we provide, such as our PCPS Transforming Your Business Model resources; detailed how we are responding to shortages in the pipeline of future accountants; and revealed how we are helping the profession responsibly embrace AI.

Preparing for and growing within this changing environment is our challenge and opportunity. We are committed to “accelerating and leading” through it, alongside you.

I am grateful to have had a front-row seat to the evolution of our profession and to have been part of the conversations about how to solve challenges and provide opportunity for all. I am excited for Mark Koziel, who was introduced as our new CEO effective Jan. 1. The future of the AICPA and our profession is in good hands. It’s been an honor to be an advocate for you and the profession on both the state, national, and global levels for the past 30 years.

Sincerely,

Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA
